While visiting different LifeShare communities, we often have the opportunity to spend time with residents and listen to their remarkable stories. Recently, I met a veteran who has served in not one, not two, but three different wars (WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War). Coincidentally, it was the day before Veterans Day and he was in the process of preparing a speech he would deliver at the Veterans Day Program.

It did not take long for me to realize that I was in the presence of a great man. Not only did he give years of service to our country, but he continues to put others first. In fact, he now volunteers his time working with fellow residents of his community on how to best use their LifeShare system.

Since the LifeShare system has been installed in his room, Cleo has been able to communicate with his family in ways that were previously impossible. While talking with Cleo he explained how he has family in California, Arizona, Kansas, West Virginia, and Indiana. Via LifeShare,  he is able to continuously communicate with them. “It is unbelievable. I am not sure how often I would hear from my family if I did not have LifeShare.” Cleo described how happy it makes him feel when he is able to see a picture of his great-grandbaby who lives in another state.

During this holiday season, I give thanks for the opportunity to have met friends like Cleo. Not only does he have inspirational stories, but he continues to live in service to others, setting a great example for all with his dedication and cheerful demeanor.
