Want to know the story behind some of the songs you hear while you’re out shopping or at a restaurant? Our partners at What’s In-Store Music take us Behind the Song featuring “Nothing Lost” by The Alternate Routes.
“I started writing “Nothing Lost” after working on the Bob Marley Song “Three Little Birds” with a student of mine. I have always loved that song, but breaking it down was a masterclass on beauty and simplicity. I was so inspired that I sat down and wrote “Nothing Lost.” The opening line is me literally trying to convince myself of Bob Marley’s message. I know it’s easy to say, but harder to believe. Let your worries fall away, like the autumn to the leaves. When I first started out, I thought I was writing a song for my son. And I did. But like everything, it quickly became apparent to me that it was about more. It was also about being a son. And a spouse. A sibling. A friend. And even a stranger. It’s about trusting in the things that connect us all, even when they are hard to see. I know, I know. Easy to say, harder to believe. I hope you enjoy. This is Nothing Lost.” – Eric Donnelly
